Judo

After campers have built up/restored their self-esteem, started a mindful practice of empathy, and learned how to set effective physical boundaries, Judo is our first choice as a first line of defense while they’re on campus, where concerns about suspensions or expulsion from school for fighting are a priority. When a child’s personal space is threatened and escalation of a verbal confrontation to the physical is imminent, Judo (the Japanese martial art meaning “the gentle way”) allows kids to protect themselves without the need to strike or kick. Because of this, it’s also part of our Wee Kick curriculum for preschool & kindergarten aged kids at Alonzo Martial Arts.
