The Korean martial art of Hapkido complements Taekwondo quite effectively. Hapkido utilizes joint locks, throws and grappling, making it one of the original mixed martial arts. However, unlike MMA training, Hapkido roots its strategy in the principles of water, circle, and harmony, using an attacker’s weight & momentum against them. It emphasizes deflecting an opponent’s attacks instead of forceful blocking. It is a fantastic means of self defense that can prepare kids to defend themselves against more than one attacker at a time.
