Judo

After campers have built up/restored their self-esteem, started a mindful practice of empathy, and learned how to set effective physical boundaries, Judo is our first choice as a first line of defense while they’re on campus, where concerns about suspensions or expulsion from school for fighting are a priority. When a child’s personal space is threatened and escalation of a verbal confrontation to the physical is imminent, Judo (the Japanese martial art meaning “the gentle wayâ€) allows kids to protect themselves without the need to strike or kick. Because of this, it’s also part of our Wee Kick curriculum for preschool & kindergarten aged kids at Alonzo Martial Arts.
