SAFETY PROCEDURES

UPSTANDER KIDS is a drop off Camp. Drop off is just inside the driveway off Arizona Ave. Parents or authorized guardians listed on the Registration Form must check-in and check-out their children from camp (children will not be released from camp to someone who is not on the Registration Form as an Authorized Guardian for safety purposes). If you would like your child to be released to someone who is not on the Registration Form under Authorized Guardian, please provide a Safety Word for your child for emergency unauthorized pick up.

BEFORE CAMP 

  • Parents/legal guardians of higher-risk capers are recommended to consult their child’s medical provider(s) to assess risk and determine if camp attendance is acceptable. 
  • It is important to please keep your camper(s) home if they show symptoms associated with COVID-19. 
  • Parents/legal guardians are recommended to take their child(ren)’s temperature before coming to camp each day. If a child has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher they will not be able to join camp that day.
  • Campers will be required to bring their own mask/face covering to camp. We will have individually wrapped extra masks for emergency use only. 

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP PROCEDURES 

  • All parents/legal guardians, campers, and staff will be required to wear facial coverings during drop-off/pick-up time. 
  • Parents/legal guardians, campers, and staff will be required to uphold appropriate social distancing whenever possible, as indicated by cones spaced 6 feet apart.
  • Staff will conduct health checks, which include health screening questions. Using no-touch thermometers, temperature checks will be taken at the Drop Off site while kids are still in the car before admitting them into camp.
  • At pick-up, parents/legal guardians will check-in with a designated staff member and campers will be escorted outside to the pick-up location.  
  • Parents/legal guardians will need to communicate with staff ahead of time to arrange dropoff or pick-up times outside of those already designated. 

DURING CAMP 

  • Everyday at the beginning of camp, staff will go over small group trainings/demonstrations with campers on appropriate behaviors and precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
  • Campers and staff are asked to remain 6 feet apart whenever possible. 
  • Campers and staff must bring their own face covering each day in order to participate in the     program; campers and staff must wear a face covering at all times, except when eating and while playing in the ocean. 
  • Campers will be encouraged to bring their own sand toys and equipment; no equipment or supplies will be shared among campers besides items provided by the camp that are easily cleaned. 
  • Campers and staff must wash or use hand sanitizer to clean their hands between activities, and before and after eating. 
  • Camp staff will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing all equipment and supplies.

IN CASE OF A CONFIRMED OR SUSPECTED INFECTION

 • Staff and campers will be monitored closely throughout the day for any signs of illness; if a staff member or camper has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, a cough, or other symptoms related to COVID-19, preparations will be made to either send them home or to a medical facility.

 • Parents/legal guardians of the camper that is suspected of being infected will be immediately notified.

 • Parents/legal guardians of campers that may potentially have had contact with suspected or confirmed cases will be immediately contacted.

  • Before leaving camp, campers and staff that are suspected of being infected will be isolated in a separate tent away from their group until they are able to either be safely transported home or sent to a medical facility, as appropriate. 
  • Staff will clean and disinfect the isolation area at the end of the day, after proper ventilation. 
  • Parent/legal guardians of campers who are confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 will be advised not to return to camp until they meet CDC criteria to discontinue home isolation.

WHAT NOT TO PACK 

No sodas, energy drinks, or caffeinated drinks allowed. Water, sports drinks, juice, and milk are acceptable. 

No personal electronics such as cellphones, tablets, music devices or other portable video games devices. If brought to camp, they are the camper’s responsibility and UPSTANDER KIDS is not responsible for theft or damage. 

If parents want their child to carry a cellphone, it must remain in his/her backpack and CAMP AWESOME® is not responsible for it being stolen or damaged. 

Campers are not allowed to share food due to safety purposes (some campers might be allergic to some food products such as peanuts, milk, and seafood). 

No expensive jewelry or items with sentimental value that could be damaged or lost. 

No bicycles, rollerblades, hover boards, skateboards, scooters, or shoes with wheels. No weapons, fake weapons, or objects that may cause bodily or emotional harm. 

No snacks that require cooking. 

No card games such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, etc. since these often get lost, stolen or damaged. 

*Remember CAMP AWESOME® is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. 

WHAT TO PACK 

CAMPERS SHOULD BRING BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND PLENTY OF SNACKS. Food should be kept in an easily identifiable lunch bag or lunch box with their name on it. We take a snack break throughout the day, so please pack plenty of snacks. It is the campers responsibility to bring their own breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We do not provide snacks to campers during the camp day with the exception of an occasional camp-wide award. Please bring plenty of water since campers will be outdoors in the sun; water will be needed to keep hydrated. We recommend campers bring their own water. Campers are required for to show up in shoes, but flip-flops or sandals are mandatory to use when going to the bathroom. 

ILLNESS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES 

If your child is ill, please keep him/her at home for the day. We ask for your consideration for the health of all of our campers and staff. If a child is injured or becomes ill during the camp day, parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified. If the illness or injury is significant to the extent that your child can no longer participate in camp activities, you will be notified immediately and asked to pick up your child. In the unlikely event that an injury or illness requires emergency care, you will be notified immediately. The director will contact 911, and paramedics will transport your child with accompanying staff member to an emergency care facility. Parents or the designated guardian will be responsible for any medical fees incurred. If your child receives a minor injury, such as a scraped elbow, staff will administer basic First Aid and will inform you of the incident when you pick up your child.

The WEE KICK Program is an age-appropriate experience taught from a Child Development perspective. It plants seeds of Self-Discipline and prepares pre-K & Kindergarten kids for the physicality and structure of more mature martial arts training. Benefits include confidence, self-esteem, and better focus. Physically, they benefit from improved gross motor skills, coordination, balance, strength & flexibility. In addition to traditional martial arts training, our approach to empowering kids wouldn’t be complete without building up their self-esteem, practicing social skills, and teaching them how to set boundaries.  Mindful meditation can ease anxiety while promoting kindness.  Wee Kick Class is a TON of Fun packed into 45 minutes of teachable moments!
